Futurama is an American adult science fiction show created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen. On December 31st 1991, Fry is accidentally frozen and gets put 1000 years in the future.
We see several civilizations and cities coming to be and destroyed several times. From this, we can see that this show exhibits understanding (and jokes) of how our existence is only a fraction of the greater existence and passing of time in perspective of the whole universe’s existence.
When Fry thaws, he sees a magnificent and technologically advanced society (in the images below).
Some inhabitants are aliens, while others are robots and humans. The future is full of flying cars and suction tubes that transport people extremely fast. Like Stop and Drops “America’s favorite suicide booth since 2008.”
He then gets his job assignment from the good-looking cyclops Lela:
“Take your hands off me! You’ve been assigned the job you are best at just like everyone else!” Lela tells him. Later, we see a softer side to her when she tells Fry, “I know how it feels to be alone” as an excuse to not brand him with his assigned job, a delivery boy (the same one he had in his life 1000 years ago)!
The funniest part of the episode is the ending, after so much self reflection on Lela, Bender (the robot) and Fry’s parts, they found a job with Fry’s great, great, great… nephew on a space crew that belongs to him, and Fry’s job is to deliver the cargo. “So, I am a delivery boy?”
